Meeting up

Last night I attended my first ever real estate meetup with the Michigan Real Estate Investors here in Troy. I’m terrible at networking, so this was a personal challenge but when I’m passionate about something I’m generally able to push through my social shortcomings.

The night was far longer than I anticipated it would be. I arrived at 5:15pm to “network”. Again, I’m terrible at this but I did manage to strike up a couple conversations, one with a young guy named Dom who’s closing on his first rental property today in Warren. We have a lot in common, so it was nice to chat with someone who’s at a similar place in the journey.

The great real estate investing adventure

Kaitlin and I have wanted to dabble in real estate for a long time, ever since I can remember really. Like many folks we’d watch flipping shows, HGTV, etc. but always had an excuse for why we couldn’t get started.

We lived in California, for starters. The barrier to entry there is far higher simply do to the higher cost of real estate. We also didn’t have much time. I was still getting Kibin off the ground; she had a demanding sales job. If we’d been truly motivated we would have found a way to get going regardless.
